JENNIFER COMEAU - BIO

Jennifer Comeau has an engineer’s mind and a poet’s heart. Her earliest years in Buffalo, New York, were irrevocably influenced by the vibrant and poignant Irish folk music of the 60’s.  She has sung and performed since kindergarten in numerous musical mixtures.

Comeau’s purpose is to inspire and unleash the human spirit. She hosts retreat workshops that blend group wisdom with her original music in the idyllic setting of Kennebunkport Maine.

Her sojourn as singer-songwriter has taken her through the unexpected terrain of Corporate America, where as an engineer and executive in the tough world of manufacturing, she learned about the emotional connection required to transform a disparate group of people into a like-minded force for positive change. It is this same emotional connection that she creates in her live performances today.

After moving to Maine from Los Angeles, in early 2004, Comeau began to pursue music with the same passion that she applied to her successful corporate executive career. Comeau has written all of the songs on her debut CD, Feed the Tribe, which is an eclectic mix of buoyant urban folk and blues.  Comeau’s allure as a songwriter is the honesty and universality of her messages. “I write about my own sojourn, yet listeners tell me it’s as if my songs are speaking just to them.” Indeed, there is an earthy, soulful quality in her lyrics and melodies that delve into the rawness and uncertainty of life without losing its beauty. With a vocal range from lush and rich in her low register to mellifluous in the high, Comeau allows the uniqueness of each song to direct her performance.

Feedback on her debut CD is strong:
“I love this album. In an earlier life, my job was to evaluate and sell music CDs to local and national record stores. I’ve listened to many hundreds of CDs; this one is so good, so inspiring. It has variety, interest, the words speak to me. It is really well done. Impressive.”
~ Don Wessels, Musician and former CD distributor

“A real find in Kennebunkport. Such a talent in our small community!”
~ Linda Bick, Screenwriter

Comeau’s innovative “give back” strategy has 100% of the proceeds from her CD sales going to the Kennebunkport Conservation Trust locally and the Central Asia Institute globally.  Greg Mortenson of the Institute is featured in the NY Times bestseller, Three Cups of Tea.  His work in building schools for mostly Muslim girls in Pakistan and Afghanistan is aligned with three of the United Nation’s Millennium Development Goals: fighting poverty and hunger, achieving universal primary education, and promoting gender equality and empowering women.

In live performances, Comeau is supported by talented musicians Mickey Roache (lead guitar, mandolin); Michael McNerney of PortMedia (percussion); and John Comeau (bass). A cadre of singers contribute stand-out harmonies. Replete with irreverent wit and stories that speak to the best of us, it is clear Comeau is a woman at home in her role as troubadour in service to people who are changing the world.  Her CDs are available for purchase at: jennifercomeau.com and at her musical venues.
