When Our Souls Connect

The light in your eyes draws me in
Safe harbor of acceptance, sail in, sail in
The sound of your voice when you laugh
I watch all defenses collapse

Chorus:
Two eyes reaching for two eyes
Become two eyes
Become one
Separateness vanishes
Time holds its breath
Anything is possible
When our souls connect

The kinship you leave in your wake
A lightness and hope for all places
You teach us be kind and to love
Beyond our own gain,
Just because

Chorus

I might be Indian, you could be Greek
Maybe your language is one I don’t speak
And when I see you as just a similar shade of me
Our bond is deeper than any boundary.
Our bond is deeper than any boundary.

One heart reaching for one heart
Becomes one heart
We are one
Separateness vanishes
Life holds its breath
Everything is possible
When our souls connect

Song Origins:
While recording my first song for a church album, I had an amazing experience of connectedness with our recording technician, Jorge. He was fully present -- his eyes glowed with the light of loving kindness.  It struck me that his eyes are like the “I-see-You” eyes I imagine Jesus of Nazareth or The Buddha or Mother Teresa had. And if each of us were only to reach out to an Other with those same non-judging eyes, there really wouldn’t be an Other at all. And then, anything, anything would be possible.

Jen’s Favorite Line:
The light in your eyes draws me in
Safe harbor of acceptance, sail in, sail in

Question to Contemplate:
How can I create experiences where the best of each of us shows up?
