What Goes Around

What are you doin’ Papa?
What are you doin’ Mama?

Chorus What you are doin’ to each of us;
What you are doin’ to the least of us
You do –  ooo – ooo unto me
What you are doin’ to each of us;
What you are doin’ to the least of us
You do –ooo  oo-oo unto Him

Oh Lord there’s a woman crying
Oh Lord there’s a girl afraid
Oh Lord there’s a haunted veteran
Just trying to make it through the day
Can’t you see the loneliness behind the socialite’s smile
Can’t you feel the frustration in the young father’s sighs

Chorus

When a stranger offers kindness
There’s nothing more uplifting
When we offer what we can
We can receive with dignity
Enter the space of love working
Through us in our lives today
Feel the grace of doing good
Good for its own sake.

Chorus
What goes around comes around
What goes around comes around
What goes around comes around
Whatsoever you do

Song Origins:
I grew up singing in church with two of my sisters.  A song that has a stays-with-you chorus is Whatsoever You Do, taken from Matthew 25:40.  I like the sentiment.  I usually express it in the simple poem attributed to Quaker activist Stephen Grellet: “I shall pass through this world but once. Any good, therefore, that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it for I shall not pass this way again.”
Or put very simply and beautifully by Jewel: “In the end, only kindness matters.” Enough said.

Jen’s Favorite Line:
Enter the space of love working through us in our lives today. Feel the grace of doing good -- good for its own sake.

Question to Contemplate:
How am I recognizing the rights and needs of those who cannot speak or act for themselves?
