Don't Go Lettin' Life Harden Your Heart

I saw old woman Jessie yesterday
She said: Girl why you shufflin’ along
You need a bright face to carry on your way
Now don’t you go lettin’ life harden your heart

Was talking to my brother who’s down on his life
He said: I just can’t care much anymore
Honey, you’re hurtin, you’ve had a bit a’ strife
But don’t you go lettin’ life harden your heart

Chorus:
Don’t go lettin’ life harden your heart
You gotta’ long way to live
Soften those edges before you fall apart
Now don’t you go lettin’ life harden your heart

Humpty Dumpty sat on his wall
Ponderin’ his losses in life
Now listen here egg face, long as you gotta’ pulse
Don’t you go lettin’ life harden your heart

Chorus

Song Origins:
As it turns out, I love to sing the blues! This is another fun song that came about because a friend made a statement about not liking Blues songs because they represent the half-empty side of life.  Hmmm, I thought: “I can write a Blues song that’s not depressing.”  And then I discovered the masterpiece, “Don’t Ever Let Your Spirit Down”, by Mr. Eric Bibb after writing my song. Dare we say “great minds…”?

Jen’s Favorite Line:
Now listen here egg face, long as you gotta’ pulse -- don’t you go lettin’ life harden your heart.

Question to Contemplate:
How can I appreciate the value in every situation and experience? What am I meant to learn from this situation?
